Bavarian Mounted Police Commander Pickelhaube with Case

Bavarian Mounted Police Commander Model 1898 to 1923. VFW find. Black lacquered leather body with squared front visor and brass trim. Helmet has excellent form and firm stitching. Exterior lacquer is in near perfect and still has nice sheen. Interior has an officer style sweat leather with silk headliner. Lining that has some minor discoloration but is complete. Squared spike base with 4 split brads at the spike base. No pearl ring or ornamentation at spike base. Tall smooth officer type spike that is removable. This officer wears a black buffalo hair plume for parade. Front plate has the beautiful Bavarian coat of arms. No extra holes in helmet body. Scaled chinstrap on Lion head retainers. Officer stye Reich Cockade on left side of helmet body above the Lion head retainer. This helmet was used by the Mounted Bavarian State Police beginning in 1898 with continued use until 1923 ( Radecke, Erich: POLIZEI ABZEICHEN - HELME, Soldi Verlag, 1993, pp 40-43.). Helmet includes original conical carrying case (see photo). Beautiful Imperial era Polizei helmet that was brought home by a Doughboy . Great for display. Bargain priced
